Tinubu Orders Resolution of Passport Renewal Delays for Nigerians in Rwanda

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the country’s diplomatic mission in Rwanda to immediately address significant delays in passport renewal services affecting the diaspora community in Kigali. The directive followed an interactive session held on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum, where community leaders, including Prof Umar Wali, highlighted the absence of a passport office at the Nigerian High Commission as a major hurdle for renewing travel documents and securing passports for newborns. During the engagement, led by NIDCOM Director General Abike Dabiri-Erewa, President Tinubu commended the attendees, comprising professionals and business leaders, for their contributions to Nigeria’s image abroad. He pledged transparent governance and urged citizens to reject ethnic bias, emphasizing national unity under the Nigerian flag. The President also encouraged the diaspora to leverage their skills for national development, drawing parallels with Rwanda’s post-genocide recovery. Attendees included notable figures such as Michael Masai Ujiri and UN officials, who discussed potential investments in sports infrastructure and human capital development. Tinubu instructed the Charge d’Affaires, Ibrahim Zanna, to collaborate with relevant agencies to harness the economic and intellectual potential of Nigerians in Rwanda.
