Thai Police Arrest Nigerian Man for Nearly Three-Year Visa Overstay

Thai immigration police arrested a 29-year-old Nigerian man in Nonthaburi province on May 14, 2026, for overstaying his visa by nearly three years. The suspect was detained at a condominium following a tip-off to the Immigration Bureau’s hotline. Authorities stated that the man entered Thailand on April 13, 2023, using a tourist visa during the Songkran festival. Although he repeatedly extended his stay, his last valid extension expired on June 6, 2024, resulting in 1,069 days of illegal residence. During interrogation, the suspect admitted he remained in the country to live with his Thai girlfriend, who financially supported him as he was unemployed. He had previously attempted to secure a student visa through an institution in Nakhon Ratchasima, but the application was rejected. Consequently, he continued extending his tourist visa until it lapsed. The individual has been charged with violating Thailand’s Immigration Act by remaining in the kingdom after his permission to stay expired. He was subsequently transferred to the Muang Nonthaburi police station to face further legal proceedings regarding his immigration status.
