Tencent Invests ₹10 Crore in India’s Orange Economy to Boost AVGC Sector
Chinese tech giant Tencent has announced a multi-year investment of over ₹10 crore to support India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector, aligning with the country’s growing 'Orange Economy.' The initiative involves signing memorandums of understanding with the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI). The partnership aims to enhance skill development, provide mentorship, and facilitate international collaboration for Indian creators. Through its agreement with SEPC, Tencent will focus on capacity building and helping local companies access global value chains, supporting India’s goal of employing two million AVGC-XR professionals by 2030. Additionally, the collaboration with GDAI includes grassroots skilling initiatives such as a National Game Jam for over 10,000 students annually and Train-the-Trainer programs. This move underscores India’s strategic push to position creative industries as a key driver of services-led growth, capitalizing on its status as the fastest-growing gaming market in Asia. Tencent also plans to introduce titles like Honor of Kings to further strengthen the local esports and creator ecosystem.
