Tamil Nadu CM Requests Ford to Resume Production at Chennai Plant

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met with a Ford delegation led by vice-president Matthew Godlewski on July 20, 2026, in Chennai. The CM requested Ford to resume production and expansion activities at its manufacturing facility in Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai, and to fully utilize the plant. Discussions also covered expansion of Ford's Global Capability Centres in Tamil Nadu, including a new centre in Coimbatore. Engine production is set to commence at the Maraimalai Nagar factory with an investment of ₹3,250 crore. The CM recalled Ford's 30-year relationship with the state and assured government cooperation. Industries Minister S. Keerthana and Ford managing director Simonetta Verdi were among those present.
