Survey: Majority Support Pope Leo XIV's Political Engagement Amid Trump Criticism
A recent representative survey conducted by YouGov for the German Press Agency reveals that more than half of citizens support Pope Leo XIV expressing himself on political matters. Specifically, 46 percent of respondents believe it is appropriate for the Pope to generally address topics of political relevance, while 25 percent argue he should limit his comments to selected issues such as war and peace. Conversely, 17 percent oppose any political commentary from the Pontiff. Simultaneously, the Catholic Convention in Würzburg is discussing the church's political role. Irme Stetter-Karp, President of the Central Committee of German Catholics, emphasized that Christians must not retreat behind church doors, advocating for a church that actively professes human dignity and solidarity. The survey, involving 2,179 participants, highlights the complex intersection of religious authority and political discourse in contemporary society.
