Recent research challenges the conventional belief that facial expressions are the primary indicators of deception. According to studies highlighted by The Guardian and reported by Exame, individuals are more accurate at detecting lies when they rely solely on auditory cues rather than visual information. Scientists argue that excess visual data, such as body language and facial movements, can overwhelm the brain's processing capacity, leading to incorrect interpretations. Neuroscientist Sophie Scott from University College London explains that stress hormones like adrenaline affect the larynx, causing subtle changes in pitch, tremor, or speed.
