Sniffer Dog Helps Railway Security Catch Ganja Peddler at Madurai Junction
On July 15, 2026, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel conducted a combing operation at Platform No. 5 of Madurai Railway Junction. A two-year-old Belgian Malinois sniffer dog named Eric, trained in narcotics detection, alerted handlers to a suspicious man from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, who was pulling a trolley and carrying a shoulder bag. Upon inspection, RPF personnel found 10 polythene bundles wrapped with adhesive tape containing approximately 20.500 kg of dry ganja. The accused was handed over to GRP for further proceedings. RPF officials praised Eric's role, noting that the dog barks continuously, pulls at belongings, or sits near contraband to signal its presence. The article also mentions two other RPF sniffer dogs, Austin and Vetri (Labrador breed), trained to detect explosives.
