Skanska delivers $380M LAX project, touts small business partnerships
Skanska has completed a $380 million roadways and utilities project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), part of the $5.5 billion Landside Access Modernization Program. The project, which began in November 2020 and finished in May 2026, included 365,000 square feet of street paving, 8 lane-miles of pavement striping, and 1.5 miles of bike lanes. Skanska exceeded all its small and local business participation goals, awarding $91 million (24%) to 139 small business enterprises, $89.7 million to 52 local business enterprises, $44.2 million to 40 local small businesses, and $18.8 million to 19 disabled veteran business enterprises. The company attributed this success to 368 outreach events and partnerships with trade groups like the National Association of Women in Construction and the National Association of Minority Contractors. Skanska also supported the HireLAX apprenticeship readiness program as part of community outreach.
