Ex-Singapore Air Force Chief Allowed Overseas Travel Amid Negligent Driving Charges

Goh Yong Siang, the 74-year-old former Chief of the Singapore Air Force, has been granted permission by the court to travel overseas for business purposes despite facing charges of negligent driving. The incident occurred on May 17, 2024, when Goh allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout while turning at a pedestrian crossing in Singapore, colliding with a woman and a two-year-old boy in a stroller. Both victims suffered injuries, with the woman sustaining grievous hurt. During a hearing on May 14, the court allowed Goh to travel to Jakarta, Indonesia, from May 19 to May 22, and to Bangkok, Thailand, from June 3 to June 6. To secure this permission, Goh was required to post an additional bail sum of S$5,000, bringing the total to S$15,000. He must also declare his travel itinerary and remain contactable by investigation officers during his trips. His lawyer, Lee May Ling, indicated that a decision regarding the plea would be communicated later, though no plea was entered at this stage. The next hearing is scheduled for June 3.
