BP to sell 250-site Austrian convenience store and EV charging business to Volenergy AG
BP has agreed to sell its convenience retail and electric vehicle charging businesses in Austria to Swiss energy company Volenergy AG, according to a Monday announcement. The deal includes 250 branded retail sites in Austria, 115 of which are company-owned and franchise-operated, while the remaining 135 use dealer-owned, dealer-operated, or unstaffed company-owned models. The sale is part of BP's ongoing portfolio review, which has previously led to divestitures in the Netherlands (2025), Turkey (2024), and Switzerland (2022). The transaction is expected to close at the end of 2026. The 250 sites will continue to operate under the BP banner through a brand license agreement. Volenergy AG, which already operates over 730 fuel stations in Switzerland, previously acquired BP's Swiss retail network in 2022. BP executives emphasized the sale supports the company's goal to become simpler, stronger, and more valuable through disciplined capital allocation.
