SDSU Baseball Secures Summit League Championship Berth with 5-0 Shutout of Omaha

South Dakota State University (SDSU) baseball team secured a spot in the upcoming Summit League Baseball Championship by defeating the Omaha Mavericks 5-0 on Wednesday night at Tal Anderson Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The victory improved SDSU's overall record to 21-27 and evened their conference standing at 12-12, moving them into third place in the league. Pitcher Drew McDowell delivered a dominant performance, throwing six no-hit innings and matching his career high with seven strikeouts. Reliever Ty Madison completed the shutout with three scoreless frames, earning his first save of the season. Offensively, Nate Wachter led the Jackrabbits with a 3-for-4 performance, contributing significantly to the scoring in the first, third, and sixth innings. Owen Siegert, returning from injury, also played a key role with two hits and an RBI. This win marked SDSU's first night game victory of the season and their first shutout since April 2025. The game was a makeup match from a series canceled earlier in April due to weather. SDSU will continue their four-game series against Omaha with the next game scheduled for Thursday evening.
