Saint-Étienne Coach Ian Cathro Discusses Pre-Season Defeat and Preparation Challenges
Ian Cathro, the new Scottish coach of Saint-Étienne (Les Verts), commented after a 0-1 friendly defeat to Servette in Geneva. He emphasized that pre-season should be difficult and that facing more match-fit opponents like Servette, who start their league campaign on Friday, is intentional. Cathro noted that his team, which includes new arrivals like midfielder Aron Csongvai who joined only two days prior, is still building cohesion. He observed that while Saint-Étienne had three or four strong moments to enter desired spaces, they could not sustain dominance. Cathro acknowledged that the upcoming friendly in Glasgow will be very intense and aggressive, and that the goal is to be fully ready for their Ligue 2 opener against Sochaux on August 8.
