Russia Authorizes 25,000 Additional Troops in Limited Military Expansion

Russia has signed a decree increasing the authorized strength of its armed forces by 25,000 personnel, bringing the total to 2,426,130 including 1,535,000 servicemen, effective August 1. The move is formally linked to the establishment of new military construction units. This is significantly smaller than the feared mobilization of nearly half a million people to compensate for battlefield losses in Ukraine. Analysts view this as a limited step that strengthens logistics and support structures without fundamentally changing the balance of forces. The Kremlin continues to rely on contract recruitment and regional financial incentives rather than a politically risky nationwide call-up. However, a much larger mobilization may still be ordered if current recruitment proves insufficient to sustain Russia's strategic objectives and replace ongoing casualties.
