RTX’s Raytheon Selected to Supply SeaRAM for Australia’s New Mogami-Class Frigates

Raytheon, a business unit of RTX, has been awarded a contract by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to provide SeaRAM ship self-defense systems for Australia’s Sea3000 General Purpose Frigate program. This initiative aims to replace the decommissioning Anzac-class frigates with eleven Upgraded Mogami-class vessels. Under the agreement, Raytheon will supply SeaRAM launchers, Blast Test Vehicles, and technical services to support the installation and testing of these systems on the first three ships, which are being constructed in Japan by MHI. The SeaRAM system integrates the Phalanx Close In Weapon System with Rolling Airframe Missiles to offer autonomous terminal defense against cruise missiles and advanced airborne threats. Barbara Borganovi, President of Naval Power at Raytheon, highlighted that this integration extends defensive reach and provides a proven air and missile defense layer for the Royal Australian Navy. This selection marks Australia as a new member of the global RAM user community. Work on the contract will be conducted in Louisville, Kentucky, with deliveries scheduled to commence in late 2028. The deal underscores the long-term demand for advanced naval defense systems and strengthens military industrial cooperation between the United States, Japan, and Australia.
