Rajasthan woman Sarpanch highlights rural innovations at BRICS Ministerial Meeting
Sarpanch Neeru Yadav from Lambi Ahir, Rajasthan, represented India at the BRICS Women’s Ministerial Meeting-2026 in Kochi, Kerala, held on July 8-9 under India's presidency. Selected by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and UN Women India, the 36-year-old grassroots leader shared her 'village to global' journey and highlighted rural innovations, women's leadership, and panchayat-based development models. Her initiatives include forming a girls' hockey team funded by her honorarium, establishing a utensil bank to reduce plastic use, and the 'Naari Disha' programme for digital literacy and financial inclusion. She also promoted environmental conservation through 'Mera Ped, Mera Dost' and eco-friendly gifting traditions. The meeting brought together ministers and officials from 11 BRICS nations, focusing on women's leadership, economic empowerment, digital inclusion, and sustainable rural development.
