Protestant Church Shows Strong Presence at Hamburg Pride Week
During Pride Week in Hamburg (July 24 to August 2, 2026), the Protestant Church is demonstrating a strong presence with a diverse program. President of the North Church Regional Synod, Anja Fährmann, will lead an opening service at Holy Trinity Church under the motto 'Solidarity queer. Taking a stand - for a future without fear!' The church will participate in the Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade on August 1 with its own truck carrying around 140 people, a blessing tent at St. Petri, and an organ concert titled 'Glitter and Be Gay' at St. Nikolai. A concluding CSD service on August 2 at St. Pauli Church aims to provide reflection and strength for everyday life. Pastor Sieghard Wilm noted that many queer people are increasingly unsettled and afraid, citing conversations with a gay couple who rushed to marry due to concerns about changing social climate. The church emphasizes standing with those whose dignity is questioned, promoting human dignity, queer visibility, and anti-discrimination.
