Program offering free food to moving military families expands to four more states
The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) is expanding its Fresh Funds program to four new areas: Naval Station Norfolk/Hampton Roads, Virginia; MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida; San Diego, California; and Seattle/Tacoma, Washington. The program provides $125 grocery stipends via Instacart to military families relocating, helping cover food, beverages, and baby essentials. It also offers a PCS Pantry Restock Box with pantry staples and cleaning supplies. The expansion brings total installations served to 17 across six states. MFAN research shows over 40% of military families face low food security, and more than 60% pay over $1,000 out-of-pocket during moves. Since 2024, over 6,000 families have benefited from the program.
