Prime Minister to launch 100-week campaign against drug abuse on August 2
Indian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya announced on July 29, 2026, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a nationwide 100-week campaign called 'Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan' on August 2, 2026, to combat rising drug abuse. The campaign will feature weekly Sunday activities including walkathons, sports, meditation, street plays, and art competitions. Over one crore youth across 10,000 locations are expected to participate simultaneously, taking a national pledge against drug abuse. The initiative involves MY Bharat Volunteers, schools, colleges, NGOs, and over 125 spiritual organizations. Mandaviya cited a Narcotics Control Bureau report showing 1.34 lakh kg of narcotics seized (market value ₹1,980 crore) and a record 42,282 acres of illegal opium cultivation destroyed in 2025, calling the numbers 'shocking' and urging aggressive action.
