Premier League and EFL to Meet Football Regulator Over New Financial Redistribution Deal
The Premier League and English Football League (EFL) are set for a crucial summit in London with the Independent Football Regulator to resolve a long-running dispute over financial redistribution. Premier League CEO Richard Masters and chair Alison Brittain will meet their EFL counterparts Trevor Birch and Rick Parry, along with regulator chair David Kogan and CEO Richard Monks. The regulator has legal powers to impose an agreement if no deal is reached. The Premier League is proposing a 10-year deal that would gradually reduce parachute payments while increasing solidarity payments from £100m to over £150m per season, plus a £20m 'lifeboat fund' for clubs in administration and infrastructure funding. Premier League clubs could vote on a formal offer as soon as this week. The dispute centers on the growing financial gap between top-tier clubs and lower-division teams, which threatens competitiveness and club survival.
