Pope Leo XIV Appoints Louie Galbines as New Bishop of Bacolod

Pope Leo XIV has officially appointed Bishop Louie P. Galbines as the new head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod in the Philippines, succeeding Bishop Patricio A. Buzon who has retired upon reaching the mandatory age limit. The announcement was confirmed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Bishop Galbines, currently serving as the Bishop of Kabankalan since 2018, is a native of Sagay City within the diocese. His appointment marks a significant homecoming, as he was born, ordained, and previously served in key leadership roles within the Bacolod Diocese, including as vicar general and rector of Sacred Heart Seminary. Bishop Buzon, aged 76, led the diocese for nearly a decade before submitting his resignation in accordance with Church law requiring bishops to retire at age 75. The transition was warmly welcomed by the local clergy, highlighting Galbines' deep roots and extensive experience in the region. This leadership change ensures continuity for the diocese under a prelate with strong local ties and advanced theological education from Rome.
