Poland's A26 Submarine Deal: Weapons Package, Interim Boat, and Delivery Schedule
Poland has finalized a long-running Orka submarine program with a firm order to Saab for three A26-type (Blekinge-class) submarines, valued at approximately SEK 47 billion (€4.26 billion). Deliveries are scheduled between 2031 and 2038. The deal includes a weapons package, training and support, and the lease of the older HMS Södermanland as an interim boat to train Polish crews starting August 2026. The lease ensures continued NATO AIP submarine presence in the Baltic Sea. The contract also involves Polish-Swedish cooperation on a submarine rescue vessel. There is discussion of diverting the second Swedish hull (HMS Skåne) to become Poland's first boat to meet the 2031 delivery timeline.
