Pittsburgh Startup Demonstrates Electric Vehicle Kit for Special Operations Forces
Super Powers Mobility (SPM), a Pittsburgh-based startup, demonstrated its Energized Vehicle Kit (EVK) to U.S. special operations forces at events in Nevada and Utah. The kit is designed to bolt onto light tactical all-terrain vehicles (LTATVs) like the Polaris MRZR. The EVK comes in two configurations: an augmented version that adds a 10 kWh battery pack to the existing diesel engine, enabling silent power export of up to 30 kW continuous and 100 kW peak, and a fully electric version that replaces the combustion engine entirely with a 20 kWh pack. The battery packs weigh 120 pounds and support hot-swapping for continuous power. SPM claims the system offers six times the power density of traditional military generators, significantly reducing acoustic and thermal signatures, which is critical for covert operations. The technology aligns with U.S. Special Operations Command's push for hybrid and electric vehicles to enhance stealth and operational capability.
