PhilHealth Reports 33.2 Million Filipinos Enrolled in Yakap Primary Care Program
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced that over 33.2 million Filipinos are now linked to its flagship primary care initiative, the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (Yakap). These members are registered across 4,287 accredited clinics nationwide, marking a significant expansion in healthcare accessibility. PhilHealth officials highlighted that this represents a 457-fold increase in primary care support compared to payout levels in 2021. Dr. Edwin Mercado, PhilHealth President and CEO, stated that the program aims to protect Filipino families by preventing serious illnesses through early detection and accessible treatment. Launched in July 2025, Yakap allows members to maximize their contributions by registering with a preferred clinic to access a comprehensive benefits package. Key benefits include free medical consultations, essential laboratory and diagnostic services, outpatient cancer screening for early disease detection, and medicines worth up to 20,000 Philippine pesos annually.
