Petro Luanda Freezes Out Orlando Pirates Loanee Gilberto Over Contract Breach
Angolan club Petro de Luanda has decided to freeze out Orlando Pirates loanee Gilberto for the remainder of the season following a breach of contractual agreements. The decision stems from the 25-year-old attacker's unauthorized participation in an unofficial street football tournament in Kilamba, south of Luanda, which posed significant injury risks and violated club policies. After being summoned to explain his actions, club management deliberated and ultimately excluded him from the squad. Gilberto has missed the last six matches, including the game where Petro secured the league title. Originally signed by Orlando Pirates in July 2024, Gilberto was loaned back to Petro in January 2025 after struggling in the South African Betway Premiership. His loan was extended to June 2026, but his future remains uncertain as he returns to his parent club. With no goal contributions in 12 appearances for Petro during this spell, it is unclear if he will regain favor with Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou upon his return.
