Patient Files First Lawsuit Against Disgraced Gynaecologist Simon Gordon

A 36-year-old woman, identified as Holly, has filed the first lawsuit against former Melbourne gynaecologist Simon Gordon, alleging medical negligence, fraud, and battery. The plaintiff claims Gordon pressured her into undergoing unnecessary laparoscopies in 2017 and 2022 without standard preoperative scans. During these procedures, Gordon allegedly removed her ovary and fallopian tube, claiming they were severely affected by endometriosis. However, subsequent pathology reports revealed the organs were healthy, with no evidence of significant disease. Holly asserts that Gordon concealed these findings, leading to severe physical and psychological consequences, including reduced fertility, chronic pain, and increased risks of early menopause and osteoporosis. This legal action marks the beginning of expected broader litigation against Gordon, who is currently under investigation by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for performing unwarranted surgeries on multiple patients. Gordon, who closed his clinic in late 2025 and cites personal reasons for his retirement, has previously maintained that he acted ethically. The case highlights serious allegations of systemic malpractice within his former practice.
