Over $10 Million Stolen from Crypto Platform THORChain in Vault Compromise
Cryptocurrency platform THORChain confirmed a security breach resulting in the theft of approximately $10.7 million. The incident, detected on a Friday morning by blockchain security firm Peckshield and investigator ZachXBT, involved the compromise of one of the platform's six vaults. The attackers siphoned more than 36 Bitcoin, valued at around $3 million, along with $7 million in other cryptocurrencies. THORChain stated that trading has been halted and that the network automatically detected abnormal behavior, stopping further outbound transactions. The company emphasized that user funds remain safe, with only protocol-owned assets affected. Founded in 2018 and based in Switzerland, THORChain is investigating the incident while implementing additional security measures. This event adds to a series of significant crypto thefts in 2026, following recent major breaches at platforms like Drift. The US Treasury Department recently announced increased cyber threat intelligence sharing with the industry in response to these growing security challenges. Previous incidents involving THORChain include a $1.2 million loss linked to alleged North Korean hackers last year.
