Over 100 Kano PHE Teachers Undergo Olympic Training to Boost Grassroots Sports
The Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), in collaboration with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and sponsored by Olympic Solidarity, has launched a three-day capacity-building programme for Physical and Health Education (PHE) teachers in Kano State. Held at Government Girls College Dala, the training involves over 100 participants aimed at strengthening grassroots sports development and instilling Olympic values in schools. The curriculum covers Olympic Values Education, sports psychology, coaching techniques, sports science, talent identification, and athlete development, aligning with the International Olympic Committee’s framework of excellence, friendship, and respect. NSSF President Olabisi Joseph described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s sporting future, emphasizing that world-class athletes emerge from schools led by well-trained teachers. IOC-certified expert Abiodun Morofolu served as the lead resource person, while NOC coordinator Kemi Obidahunsi encouraged teachers to apply their new skills effectively. This seminar follows successful sessions in Ogun and Plateau states and is part of a broader national effort to transform school sports delivery, with upcoming training scheduled for Bayelsa and Lagos states.
