OpenAI appoints David Vélez and Robin Vince to boards as IPO nears
OpenAI announced the appointment of David Vélez, CEO of Latin American digital bank Nubank, and Robin Vince, CEO of BNY, to both its nonprofit foundation and for-profit boards. The appointments come as OpenAI, valued at over $850 billion, prepares for a potential IPO after confidentially filing with the SEC in June 2026. The company completed a recapitalization in October 2025 that established the OpenAI Foundation as the controlling nonprofit entity over the for-profit OpenAI Group PBC. Board chair Bret Taylor stated the new members' experience in reshaping financial services through technology will be invaluable as OpenAI expands globally. The additions bring the board to nine members, including CEO Sam Altman, who was briefly ousted in 2023 before being reinstated.
