OECD Pledges Data Support for Nigeria’s Economic Reforms
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has committed to providing robust economic and investment data to support Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms. This pledge was made during a meeting between OECD senior officials and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda. The collaboration aims to boost investor confidence, improve policy planning, and address risk perceptions regarding African investments. Key areas of cooperation include public finance, trade competitiveness, MSME development, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and solid minerals. OECD Deputy Secretary-General Frantisek Ruzicka commended the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates, describing them as difficult but necessary decisions. President Tinubu emphasized the need for accountability and discipline to change global perceptions of Africa’s investment environment. He stressed the importance of moving beyond raw material exports to build stronger regional production systems. The discussions also covered opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area, focusing on regional integration and supporting small businesses to participate effectively in global value chains.
