Nigeria's NSC Recruits Diaspora Sprint Star Annabelle Fasuba for Elite Podium Project
The National Sports Commission (NSC) of Nigeria has officially enlisted 14-year-old sprint sensation Annabelle Fasuba into its exclusive Podium Performance Prospect Project. This strategic move highlights Nigeria's intensified efforts to attract elite diaspora athletes to represent the nation internationally. Annabelle, the daughter of former African sprint champion Olusoji Fasuba, is currently recognized as the fastest girl in her age group in the United Kingdom, having secured multiple titles in the 60m, 100m, and 200m events. NSC Director General Bukola Olopade personally visited the Fasuba family in the UK to present the P4 recognition award and pledge full support for her career development. While the NSC aims to secure her allegiance, Olusoji Fasuba emphasized that the final decision rests solely with Annabelle. He also urged Nigerian sports authorities to improve structural support systems to make athletes feel genuinely valued beyond mere medal ambitions. Although Annabelle is currently developing within Great Britain's athletics system, this engagement opens a potential pathway for her to switch allegiance to Nigeria in future international competitions.
