Nextsource Materials reports positive feasibility study for Phase 2 expansion at Madagascar graphite mine
NextSource Materials Inc. announced positive results from an updated feasibility study for a Phase 2 expansion of its Molo Graphite Mine in southern Madagascar. The expansion aims to increase production capacity to 150,000 tonnes per year of flake graphite concentrate over a 37-year mine life, using a staged modular construction approach with three new 50,000-tonne-per-year processing modules. The project requires an estimated capital expenditure of US$290.8 million and is projected to generate a pre-tax net present value of US$402.5 million with a 21% internal rate of return. The company plans to supply the electric vehicle battery market, supported by an offtake agreement with Mitsubishi Chemical Group. The study estimates life-of-mine average operating costs of US$419 per tonne and a payback period of 7.2 years. A final production decision for the first expansion phase has not yet been made.
