New Government Led by Peter Magyar Officially Formed in Hungary

Hungary has officially formed a new government led by Prime Minister Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, following his party's victory in the parliamentary elections held on April 12. President Tamas Sulyok signed a presidential decree appointing 16 ministers who had been nominated by the Prime Minister and subsequently approved by the parliament. A formal ceremony presenting credentials to the new cabinet members took place at the President’s official residence, Sandor Palace, and was broadcast on national television. The newly appointed ministers are scheduled to take their oath of office before parliament, after which the government will commence its official duties. The first working session of the new cabinet is set for May 13. This transition marks a significant political shift in Hungary, as the previous government led by Viktor Orban has stepped down. After 16 years in power, Orban’s Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Alliance party has moved into the opposition, ending its long-standing dominance over Hungarian politics. The formation of this new administration concludes the transitional period following the recent electoral results.
