O'Neill expects new Celtic signings before season start after transfer setbacks
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has stated the club is making progress on bringing in new players before the Scottish Premiership season begins on August 3, despite facing criticism from fans over a lack of summer transfer activity. The Scottish champions have only added Colombian striker Camilo Duran from Qarabag so far. O'Neill revealed the club failed to re-sign Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, who instead joined Turkish second-tier side Bursaspor, and Uruguayan left-back Marcelo Saracchi, whose return from Boca Juniors fell through. Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson noted the difficulty of competing with big-spending English clubs. A poor attendance at a 1-1 pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough has added to fan discontent.
