NCPI MPs attend first NDA Parliamentary party meet after defecting from TMC
On July 28, 2026, 20 Lok Sabha MPs who recently left the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to join the newly formed Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) attended their first National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting, called 'Mangal Milan,' focused on trade agreements (FTAs), fisheries sector progress, and upcoming legislation, including the anti-paper leak bill. NCPI MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay had previously met with PM Modi. The defection follows student protests over NEET paper leaks that led to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. NCPI MPs expressed allegiance to the BJP-led NDA and praised the meeting's organization and informative discussions. The Speaker has yet to formally recognize the NCPI as a separate party in the Lok Sabha.
