NCB Foundation Donates Vision Kits to 200 Jamaican Children

The NCB Foundation has donated JMD $525,000 worth of vision kits to support children in Jamaica through a partnership with the Jamaica Society for the Blind (JSB). This initiative, launched during Child's Month, aims to address undiagnosed vision problems that often manifest as literacy challenges in schools. Screenings were conducted at five primary schools across the country, identifying approximately 200 students requiring further assessment and intervention. At John Austin Primary School, educators discovered that many students struggling with reading were actually suffering from untreated vision issues. The donation provides screenings, assessments, prescription glasses, and assistive devices. In addition to the material support, the foundation organized a special engagement day featuring STEM activities for students. Officials from both the NCB Foundation and JSB emphasized that removing barriers like poor vision is critical for children's educational development, confidence, and ability to reach their full potential. The program highlights the intersection of health care and educational performance, ensuring that treatable conditions do not hinder academic success.
