NCB Foundation Donates $525,000 in Vision Kits for Child’s Month in Jamaica

The NCB Foundation has donated JMD $525,000 worth of vision kits to the Jamaica Society for the Blind (JSB) to support children’s eye care during Child’s Month in Jamaica. The initiative aims to address undiagnosed vision problems that often manifest as literacy challenges in schools. Through this partnership, vision screenings were conducted at five primary schools across the country, identifying approximately 200 students requiring further assessment and intervention. At John Austin Primary School, principal Ainsworth Williams noted that many students struggling with reading were actually suffering from untreated vision issues. The donation provides screenings, prescription glasses, and assistive devices. Additionally, the foundation hosted a special engagement day featuring STEM activities for students. Officials from both organizations emphasized that accessible vision care is critical for removing barriers to learning and boosting student confidence. The program highlights the intersection of health and education, ensuring that treatable physical conditions do not hinder academic potential.
