Mumbai to get India's first travellator-equipped skywalk linking Monorail, Metro 3 and Suburban Railway
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced on July 26, 2026, that it has completed approximately 90% of the Mahalaxmi Multimodal Connectivity Project. The project features India's first travellator-equipped skywalk, a 283-meter-long integrated pedestrian bridge that will connect Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail Station, Metro Line 3, and Mahalaxmi Suburban Railway Station. The 11-meter-wide structure includes six travellators totaling 176 meters in length, two passenger lifts for universal accessibility, and can accommodate approximately 4,500 passengers per hour. The project aims to integrate interchanges, reduce transfer time by about 20 minutes, improve access to the Mumbai Monorail from South Mumbai and Worli, and encourage greater use of public transport. During construction, a 1,800 mm diameter storm water drain was relocated, while adjacent water supply and sewer pipelines remained undisturbed.
