Moscow Bans Publication of Drone Strike Aftermath Images

Moscow authorities have implemented strict restrictions on the publication of photographs and videos depicting the aftermath of so-called terrorist attacks, specifically including drone strikes. The directive, issued by the office of Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and referenced by the city's Anti-terrorist Commission, aims to prevent the spread of unreliable information. Under this new order, media outlets, individual citizens, and emergency services are prohibited from sharing any visual content related to terrorist acts or the consequences of unmanned aerial vehicle attacks until such material is officially released by the Defence Ministry or the city government. The ban also covers actions causing harm to citizens or damaging critical infrastructure. Exceptions are made only for announcements necessary to maintain public order. Violations of these restrictions will result in fines ranging from $400 to $680 for individuals, with significantly higher penalties imposed on officials and legal entities. This move aligns Moscow with other regions in Russia that have already enacted similar bans on disseminating unauthorized imagery of attack sites, reflecting a tightening control over information flow during ongoing security incidents.
