Mian Lodalen's 'Lisa & Lilly' Adapted into Feature Film
Director Julia Lindström announced at the Cannes Film Festival that Mian Lodalen’s reality-based novel, 'Lisa and Lilly,' will be adapted into a feature film. Described by Lindström as a 'Romeo and Juliet story for our time,' the drama explores a forbidden love between two teenage girls in early 20th-century Stockholm who defied strict social norms. The tragic true story culminates in their deaths in 1911. Bianca Delbravo and debutant Lina Betnér have been cast in the title roles, with Norwegian actress Ane Dahl Torp joining in a supporting role. The screenplay is penned by Veronica Zacco and Julia Thelin, while Josefine Tengblad produces for Nordic Drama Queens in collaboration with Sveriges Television. Lindström praised the chemistry between the lead actresses, noting they embodied the characters immediately. Filming is scheduled to commence in August, with the movie expected to premiere in autumn 2027. This adaptation brings a significant Swedish literary work to the screen, highlighting historical LGBTQ+ themes and societal constraints.
