The Metals Company and Allseas Sign Agreement for Commercial Nodule Recovery System
The Metals Company (TMC) and Allseas have signed a significant commercial agreement to develop and operate the first commercial nodule recovery system in the Clarion Clipperton Zone of the Pacific Ocean. Building on a strategic alliance established in 2019 and successful pilot tests in 2022, this deal outlines a clear framework for commissioning and operations. Allseas will handle the procurement and integration of the production system, funding a substantial portion of development costs to be recouped through future production revenues. The offshore system is designed with a nameplate capacity of 3.0 million wet tonnes per annum, utilizing two collector vehicles operating at depths of four kilometers. These vehicles will transport nodules via a riser system to the surface vessel Hidden Gem, before transfer to bulk carriers. Allseas has completed engineering for critical components, with TMC expecting to award subcontracts by the end of Q3 2026. System commissioning is scheduled to begin in Q4 2027. This milestone marks a major step forward for TMC, a deep-sea minerals exploration company focused on polymetallic nodules in international Pacific waters.
