Met Chief Declares British Jews Unsafe in London Amid Rising Attacks
Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, has stated that British Jews are currently not safe in London following a sustained period of antisemitic attacks. In a letter to MPs, Rowley disclosed that counter-terrorism officers are leading 11 investigations and have arrested 35 individuals, with ten charged and one convicted. The incidents include nine arson attempts, an attack on a Hatzola ambulance, and a significant terrorist stabbing in Golders Green on April 29, where two men were injured. The alleged attacker, Essa Suleiman, faces three counts of attempted murder. Coinciding with this disclosure, King Charles visited Golders Green to show support for the Jewish community. He met with victims Shloime Rand and Moshe Ben Baila, as well as Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and local police volunteers. The King’s visit was described by victims as a source of genuine warmth and reassurance during a troubling time. The Metropolitan Police emphasized the unacceptability of the violence and confirmed ongoing efforts to secure the community against further threats.
