Mark Cuban's Investment Group Acquires Minority Stake in Oakland Athletics Ahead of Las Vegas Relocation
Billionaire Mark Cuban, through his firm Harbinger Sports Partners, has acquired a minority stake in the Oakland Athletics baseball franchise. The deal, announced on July 23, 2026, marks Harbinger's first completed investment since its launch in May 2025. The Athletics are currently playing at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento while their new $2 billion domed stadium is under construction on the Las Vegas Strip, with a planned opening in 2028. Harbinger has raised over $460 million toward a $750 million target and plans 10-12 franchise investments. The group includes experienced sports executives such as Rashaun Williams (Atlanta Falcons minority owner) and Steve Cannon (AMB Sports and Entertainment vice chairman). Cuban stated the group aims to make investors money, while Williams described Las Vegas as one of the greatest sports investment opportunities of the generation. The stadium's luxury suites are sold out and 80% of premium season tickets have been purchased.
