Man Jumps onto Awning of NYC Bar 'Do or Dive' During Paranoia Episode

A 27-year-old man caused significant damage to the iconic awning of the Do or Dive bar in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, after jumping from a neighboring roof during an apparent episode of paranoia. The incident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon when the man, described by neighbors as going through a difficult moment, crawled on a roof before losing his grip and falling onto the bar's second-floor awning. Although the awning broke his fall, it could not support his weight and collapsed to the ground. Remarkably, the man emerged without injuries and returned inside the building before being evaluated by EMS at a local hospital. No charges were filed for property damage. Witnesses and neighbors reported that the man seemed paranoid, believing someone was chasing him, but emphasized he was otherwise a nice person. The yellow banner, which had survived three different tenants over four decades, was dismantled but the bar remained open. Management announced plans to repair and resurrect the historic sign in the coming days.
