Man jailed after explosives guides found on phone
Abdullah bin Yassir, 23, of Luton, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at the Central Criminal Court on July 3, 2026, after detectives found detailed explosives manufacturing guides and other Islamist extremist material on his digital devices. He was arrested in July 2025 by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit. A forensic examination of his phone revealed instructions on preparing explosive substances, including ingredients, safety measures, and avoidance of detection. Other devices contained videos on attack methods using vehicles, knives, and firearms, as well as messages expressing support for violence and justifying past terrorist attacks. Yassir was charged with three counts under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for collecting information useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism. The judge noted his more than passing interest in Islamic extremism, and Counter Terrorism Policing emphasized the serious risk posed by individuals retaining extremist material online.
