Man Charged with Attempted Kidnapping of 7-Year-Old Girl in B.C.
Police in Chilliwack, British Columbia, have charged a man with kidnapping a person under 16 following an attempted abduction of a seven-year-old girl at Chilliwack Central Elementary School. The incident occurred on a Wednesday morning just after 9 a.m. when the suspect, described as wearing a purple bunny-like mask, allegedly tried to remove the child from the school grounds. A concerned bystander intervened, preventing the abduction and returning the child to safety. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) located and arrested the suspect nearby; the child was not injured. Authorities stated that the suspect and the victim are not known to each other and characterized the event as an isolated incident. Superintendent Darren Pankratz emphasized the seriousness of the situation and thanked the public for their assistance. Investigators are currently seeking witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity between the school and the 46000 block of Margaret Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
