Liverpool beat Wrexham 1-0 in New York to maintain perfect pre-season under Andoni Iraola
Liverpool continued their winning start under new manager Andoni Iraola by defeating Wrexham 1-0 at Yankee Stadium in New York, their second pre-season victory ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The only goal came 15 minutes from time from teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha, who drove at the Wrexham defense before his deflected effort found the net. Stand-in captain Dominik Szoboszlai played out of position at center-back due to an injury to Joe Gomez. Iraola made four changes at halftime, including introducing Ngumoha. Wrexham's Kieffer Moore missed a late chance from close range. Liverpool had previously beaten Sunderland in Nashville. The squad will travel to Chicago to face Leeds next, with new signings Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexander Isak expected to feature. Iraola said his side still has work to do to fully implement his tactical identity.
