Libyan Joint Forces Unite in Historic Flintlock 26 Exercise

Exercise Flintlock 26, held in Sirte, Libya, marked a historic milestone by bringing together military forces from Libya's rival factions: the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Libyan National Army (LNA). As the 21st iteration of U.S. Africa Command’s flagship special operations exercise, it involved approximately 1,500 service members from over 30 nations. The primary focus was enhancing counterterrorism capabilities and fostering regional security coordination. Beyond tactical drills, including hostage rescue simulations and medical exchanges, the event symbolized a significant step toward reunifying Libya's divided security institutions. Key figures, including AFRICOM Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. John Brennan and Libyan officials from both sides, praised the collaboration as a foundation for national stability and sovereignty. The establishment of a multinational Joint Operations Center in Sirte further facilitated information sharing.
