Lavrov Urges Stronger BRICS Solidarity to Advance Global South Interests

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the critical need for strengthened solidarity among BRICS nations during a ministerial meeting in New Delhi. Speaking at a plenary session titled '20 Years of BRICS: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,' Lavrov argued that only through active collective efforts can BRICS countries ensure their interests, along with those of the Global South and East, are genuinely considered in leading multilateral forums. He cited the recent cooperation at the UN Climate Change Conference in Belem, Brazil, as a positive example of how coordinated stances can lead to balanced solutions. Lavrov highlighted the importance of this unity in institutions such as the United Nations, G20, World Trade Organization, and World Health Organization. The statement underscores Russia's strategic push to enhance the geopolitical influence of the BRICS bloc and challenge the dominance of Western-led international structures. By advocating for deeper coordination, Lavrov aims to position BRICS as a decisive voice in global governance, ensuring that the perspectives of emerging economies are adequately represented in high-level diplomatic and economic discussions.
