KILA and Kozhikode Corporation Sign Pact to Advance City of Literature Initiatives
The Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) has signed an agreement with the Kozhikode Corporation to revitalize activities under the Unesco 'City of Literature' designation, which Kozhikode received in October 2023 as the first Indian city to earn the honor. The partnership aims to conceive innovative initiatives after the city struggled to organize unique events over the past three years. Unesco reviews the tag every four years, and insufficient activity could result in losing the designation. The agreement was signed by Mayor O. Sadasivan and KILA Director-General N. Devidas on July 22, 2026. Plans include thematic projects, linking the proposed cultural park for writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair, engaging Gen Z readers, highlighting local writers, and exploring creative economy opportunities in music, food, design, and architecture to boost tourism. An office for the City of Literature already operates at the Corporation's cultural center in Anakkulam.
