Karnataka Minister says skill gap, not job shortage, is biggest challenge; urges youth to acquire industry skills
Karnataka Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Sharan Prakash Patil, stated that the primary obstacle to employment is a skill gap rather than a lack of jobs. Inaugurating a mega job drive at PDA Engineering College in Kalaburagi on July 29, 2026, he noted that thousands of opportunities exist but candidates lack necessary skills and have unrealistic expectations about location and salary. The government's Skill Connect initiative aims to bridge this gap through employment-oriented training. Over 80 companies, including Infosys, HCL, Mercedes-Benz, and Samsung, participated, offering more than 4,000 jobs. Patil also announced that recruitment for nearly 70,000 government posts would begin soon, and urged youth to accept available opportunities to gain experience.
